Warriors For Humanity: Plant The Planet Games
‘It has honestly changed my perspective on life and I have learned to not take anything for granted.”
Our sports scientist, Roisin, travelled to Kenya for the Warriors for Humanity Plant the Planet Games. She joined a group of Irish GAA stars and musicians aiming to plant one million trees, each representing livelihood for a family, in partnership with Self Help Africa. This project also sought to train farmers on managing these trees to ensure they are cared for and serving their purpose far beyond this project. This ensures the work leaves a strong impact benefiting families for generations to come.
About this enriching experience, Roisin has said, “it was an amazing, once in a lifetime experience filled with warmth and kindness from everyone I met. Kenya is filled with welcome and warmth, which made it so easy to love the country and the people. I met friends for life and look forward to meeting them further down the line and reflecting on our work.”
She also took part in the second ever All-star Male and Female game in Africa. The trip also included ‘Flight of the Swallows’ a group of musicians and dancers from Ireland (including many sports stars) who participated in an authentic cross-cultural music and dance exchange with their Kenyan hosts. Roisin has helped to raise over €8000 for this project! Donations are still open here.
